Re: Lady Gaga's Music Feminist?I agree with the OP her image seems to be satirizing the obsession with female sexuality in pop culture - its pretty clever - unfortunately I don't think her actual music hasn't matched her aesthetics as yet in terms of ambition and eccentricity...but she has more potential than any pop star since well...when was the last proper one? At least shes interesting as opposed to bland pop stars we have been getting for over 20 years now. Even the rock and indie scene has slowly devolved into soundalike crap. Pop culture needs a kick up the backside. It needs something very accessible yet creative and different, something very pop but with genuine passion and intelligence. Lady Gaga seems to be the nearest thing we have to that at the moment but she has frustrated me so far music wise. It seems strange to me that someone with the creativity to make that Candy Warhol video or that Fame Kills promo and clearly has a genuine artistic flair to their performances doesn't show it as much in their released music (not that it is awful or anything, its just doesn't quite match the strength of her rhetoric, not as yet anyway). She has a tendency to babble on about dancing in clubs and other such generic topics in her songs, it just seems out of place with everything else she does. I don't mean to troll its just that I feel she has untapped potential...I presume you all being big fans you probably agree.

Re: Lady Gaga's Music Feminist?I don't think it's feministic. For an example, people have said that her song Dance in the Dark is about a woman in an abusive relationship with another man, playing on the idea of the weaker side of women, which is the opposite of strength.

Re: Lady Gaga's Music Feminist?I find her new music empowering.I wouldn't ever have called myself a feminist but it seems as if I am leaning that way.Perhaps it's just that she is very striking, has a real voice and she seems like a strong woman, and that's what makes her seem to be borderline feminist.Madonna was also this way throughout her career and now noone could say that she isn't one of the most empowering women in the industry ever.I think the girls wish for good things for Lady Gaga.

Re: Lady Gaga's Music Feminist?I think the whole notion of feminism is a little out dated. Girls get more attention in school from teachers these days. Equality laws insure women a spot in the workplace. I think we all know chicks rock. Most of my bosses have been women and I prefer it that way. I have one kid...a girl...and anyone who stands in her way is gonna end up on his ass. She's the whole world to me. Gaga doesn't need to prove anything beyond her own talent which shouts for itself. You'd have to be a fucking moron not to get it. I think she knows that. Gaga displays alot of modesty but I think she knows she's the dogs bollocks as our British friends would say.
